The story Why Edinburgh Sprint Coach exists.

Edinburgh Sprint Coach was born from a simple observation — that most athletes in Edinburgh, regardless of their sport, were never being taught how to actually run fast. They trained hard. They put in the hours. But without proper sprint mechanics coaching, they were leaving enormous untapped speed on the table.

Allan Smith spent over a decade competing at the highest level of British athletics — four British Championship titles, Great Britain and Scotland international vests, Commonwealth Games and European Championship finals. Through that career, he saw what separated good athletes from great ones. It wasn't always talent. It was technique, structure, and the right coaching at the right time.

After retiring from competition, Allan turned that knowledge into Edinburgh Sprint Coach — building a team of qualified, experienced coaches with the same belief: that speed is a skill, and like any skill, it can be taught to anyone willing to work for it.

Based at Meadowbank Sports Centre — Edinburgh's premier athletics facility — the club now coaches footballers, rugby players, track athletes, youth athletes, and complete beginners. From Speed School on Monday evenings at The Meadows, to elite athletics coaching on the track, every session is built around one goal: making you faster.

What drives us Our mission. Three principles that shape every session we deliver.

Speed is a skill

Speed isn't just a genetic gift — it's a technical skill that can be learned, practised, and improved at any age. We exist to prove that to every athlete who walks through our door.

🎯

Elite for everyone

The same techniques used by GB internationals and world-class athletes deserve to be accessible to club athletes, youth players, and complete beginners. We don't reserve excellence for the elite.

📈

Measurable results

We don't deal in vague improvements. We time athletes, track splits, and measure progress in numbers. You should always know exactly how much faster you've become — and where the next improvement is coming from.

By the numbers Edinburgh Sprint Coach in numbers.

How we coach Our coaching values. The principles that shape every session, every programme, and every piece of feedback we give.
01

Technique before volume

Running more doesn't make you faster. Running better does. Every session starts with mechanics — because fixing technique delivers the biggest and fastest gains at every level.

02

Evidence-based, not trend-based

Every drill, every cue, every programme is grounded in sports science and biomechanics. We don't follow fitness trends — we follow what actually works.

03

Individual over generic

No two athletes have the same mechanics, the same weaknesses, or the same goals. Your programme is built around you — not copy-pasted from a template.

04

Honest feedback, always

We tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. Honest, specific, actionable coaching feedback is what separates a session that feels good from a session that makes you faster.
